10.00-10.15 CNC-IAPWS Activities and Needs
Igor Svishchev (IAPWS) provided an overview outlining the relevance of CNC-IAPWS. Where should we be going? Who are we trying to help? Various members offered additional comments.
10.15-11.30 CNC-IAPWS Research Areas (10-15 min each)
Igor Svishchev (Trent U.) described the work he was doing with respect to the physics and chemistry of supercritical oxidation and the success in destroying difficult contaminants in water. ppt - 860 kB

Marvin Silbert (Marvin Silbert and Assoc.) discussed some aspects of training problems in the water industry. pdf - 20 kB. He also mentioned that he would be leaving the executive and mentioned the relevance of his work with respect to the Canada Revenue Agency's SR&ED (Scientific Research and experimental Development) to funding IAPWS related activities. ppt - 630 kB.

Vladimiros Papangelakis (U of Toronto) described his work developing a method to measure pH at high temperatures rather have to rely on the present method of cooling the samples and standardizing on measurements at 25 deg C. pdf - 873 kB
David Guzonas (CRNL) described a rather extensive program to support the chemistry of the CANDU as well as other systems. The slides for this presentation are not available.

Charles Baker filled in for Ian Hey, who was at another meeting. He described the various water-related projects in progress at COG. These are outlined on the COG website at http://www.candu.org.
